18th GCC eGovernment and eServices Conference continues on its 2nd Day

Dubai, UAE – Organized by Datamatix the 18th GCC eGovernment and eServices conference, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, DIFC in Dubai, focused on concept of City Cloud and GCC e-Transparency and e-Accessibility Challenges and case study presentations of eGovernment developments.

The second day of the conference was comprised of case study presentations and networking sessions. The day’s session began with the Taipei City’s eGovernment Case study presentation by Dr. Chang Chia-sheng, Commissioner from Department of Information Technology, Taipei city Government, Taiwan which focused on the concept of City Cloud- Mobile Application and Cloud Technology Services for Citizens and Mobile applications highlighting the next generation e-Services delivery. He stressed on the on the usage of WIFI and how it is fading out in the future and further added that it will be replaced with new technologies like WIMAX and LTE 4G. He also presented a short demo on MOTA i.e. Map of Taipei amusement.

Dr. Saeed K. Al Dhaheri, Advisor to the Minister, of Information Systems UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed about Roadmap and their achievements of UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-transformation and highlighted the challenges of e-transparency and e-accessibility in GCC. He began on how social media is important in public democracy and also the stressed on importance of e-Transformation. He highlighted about the initiatives taken by Ministry of Foreign Affairs like EA (enterprise architecture) set Up, (ii) Infrastructure initiative, (iii) portal initiative, (iv) political e-services initiative, (v) ERP & support services (vi) consular e-services initiative and (vii) Business intelligence BI & Planning initiative.

The day concluded with the eGovernment case study presentation of King Saud University by Mr. Esam A Alwagait PhD, Dean, e-Transactions and Communications from King Saud University who stressed that E-gov is becoming old and now all are moving to m-government (mobile government) and said that one cannot have m-Government without first implementing E-Gov.

Attended by more than 500 participants and sponsored by Dubai Courts, Dubai Municipality, Emirates Identity Authority, National Center of Meteorology & Seismology, Abu Dhabi Chamber, King Saud University, ICT Fund, Sejel, Taipei City Government Ministry of Presidential Affairs, National Center for Documentation and Research and ICT Partners Scytl, Arabian Advanced Systems, IMA, Derp and eGovernment Institute there were some sharp questions and some lively discussions among the conference participants at each session, which all took place within a positive framework.
