Women in Education

Effective schools and teaching is essential to the development of nations.
In the Middle East, where a number of professions remain out-of-bounds for
most women, teaching is the best opportunity for them to use and impart
their knowledge to the next generation. Schools, colleges and universities
also provide the best platform for women to influence the opinions of
society and thus bring about a gradual change in the status of women in the
region. This will in turn lead to more and better participation of women in
the region’s economy and society.
It is essential to support education systems that enable
all people, especially girls to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary
to compete in today’s economy and improve the quality of their lives and
that of their families.
Teachers help to build a nation. They serve their country
in important and lasting ways. Having good teachers is the most important
school influence on how much children learn. Teachers are often referred to
as the mothers of the next generation.
Promoting gender equality and empowering women is one of
the eight United Nation’s Millennium Development goals set for 10 years from
now. Young women all over the region are asking themselves “Where am I now
and where will I be by 2015?”
The important questions that all women should ask are:
-
How are the roles of women changing?
-
Should the rights of women be a priority in the
region?
-
What are young women’s expectations for the next 10
years?
-
What challenges do they face in reaching their
personal ambitions?
Women Teachers have a great role to play at such a time
when women are fighting for a better place in Middle East economy and
society.
