GCC eBanking Forum

Sun | October 19, 2008  | Al Bustan Rotana Hotel  | Dubai, UAE

Profile

In the GCC, a healthy increase in the number of Internet users, one of the fastest growing broadband markets, and a steadily multiplying population of young people with technological savvy all indicate that the time is right time for the region’s banks to launch more ebanking services and expand existing ones.

The biggest challenge to the growth of ebanking remains poorly designed systems rather than client response. Although some people are suspicious of ebanking and the other conveniences and transactions made possible by information technology and are quite reluctant to recognize their merits, overall there has been an excellent response from customers towards well designed ebanking services.

For regional banks, there is no longer a question of whether to offer ebanking services — since it is inevitable. But a question still does remain as to how prepared they are to manage new ebanking and other online services.

It is imperative that financial institutions, organizations, and regulatory bodies and others involved in the financial sector learn as much as they can about the latest information technology trends and ebanking developments. The objective of the forum is to facilitate this learning process.

What will be discussed?

The GCC eBanking Forum will elaborate on how ebanking plays a significant role in the financial stability of an organization, region, or economy. As more and more people and organizations embrace ebanking, payment and settlement systems become more and more dependent on information systems such as computers and communication networks and bottlenecks in such systems, due to technical reasons — not economic or financial ones — could ignite unwanted chain reactions in the payment system and lead to serious financial disruptions.

During the forum, these and many other modern trends and developments will be explained via case studies and taken up during panel sessions, so that delegates will form a clear understanding of ebanking and the most recent trends and innovations in the field.
