What is more important for Conference Delegates?
“Big Names as participants or Sponsors” or
“Content”? It is a
welcoming sign the demand for events, conferences
and summits in this region is growing at an
unprecedented rate. In recent years, we have
witnessed a spurt in the number of national,
regional and global level conferences and events
being held in the Middle East.
One interesting trend that has
emerged recently, is that the majority of
participants tend to be attracted more by the ‘big
names’ attending or top organizations supporting
these events than by the issues or topics that are
being discussed. People seem to be more concerned
with the idea of being amongst powerful people & top
organizations attending the event rather than using
the opportunity to learn, network and from expert
speakers and other presenters.
Is this trend healthy?
Some People are just willing to
attend the events in case if top business and public
decision makers are their, we suggest you to attend
and listen to charismatic and the professional
speakers because there are many experts who are
knowledgeable and powerful in their own fields but
are ‘snubbed’ by participants because they do not
know who they are. This raises
the issue of whether the speaker is more important
than the content.
Common sense dictates that the
content should take precedence over the speaker,
because no matter how famous the speaker may be, if
his content is not relevant to you or your work,
then attending his speech would not make a very big
value addition. Ultimately the aim behind attending
an informational event is to learn and grow
professionally.
If this Region wants to learn,
continue to grow and keep up with the competition it
needs to address these issues. It needs to learn
that a conference made of good content is worth more
than one with a few ‘big names’ attending.
